ABOUT THE BRAND

Union Chimique Belge is a multinational biopharmaceutical company that has its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. The company has a reported revenue of over €4.178 billion as of 2016, and they have a primary focus on the development and research of medications that are centered on epilepsy, Chron’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Every three years, the company presents the UCB Award to promote neuroscience research under the patronage of the Queen Elisabeth Medical Foundation, and the winner is selected by an independent scientific committee.

One of their products is Cimzia with the generic name certolizumab pegol, and it is usually used to treat some symptoms of Chron’s disease after other treatments have not produced ideal results. The medication can also be used to treat certain types of arthritis and psoriasis, and has shown to be quite effective at treating these ailments. After 26 weeks of treatment, 37% of patients said they had reduced symptoms, with another 29% saying they had few or no symptoms remaining. Although it should be chosen and prescribed via careful deliberation and communication with the patient, the medication has shown to be worthy of the high praise and recommendations placed on it.
